Friday Five – Things I’m Loving #1

Happy Friday! It’s looking like a sunny weekend – I’m definitely looking forward to enjoying some time outside. I already spent a couple hours after work poolside and probably will be back tomorrow!

I’ve compiled a list of some things I’m into right now. This will be a series with round ups every Friday, and will probably always be pretty random. Hopefully some of these things can make you smile like they make me!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

This is such a cute novel! It was a rom-com kind of story about an always-unlucky girl’s trip to Maui in place of her food-poisoning-bed-bound twin sister. The catch is that she has to pretend to be on her honeymoon with her twin’s groom’s brother – whom she can’t stand. Highly recommend as a fun, summery read.

Refreshing Summer Cocktails

There’s just something about a light, cold cocktail on a summer evening. This week on date night, my boyfriend and I checked out Valentine’s Distilling Cocktail Lounge – they did not disappoint! SO MANY cool cocktails to choose from – and $2 off during happy hour! I chose the Cucumber Chill, which was cucumber-infused vodka, mint, lime, and soda.

I’ve also been loving making lighter cocktails at home this summer. One example is a almost-no-sugar sparkling margarita made with lime LaCroix! I fill a cup with ice, add a little lime juice, a shot of silver tequila, a couple dashes of orange bitters, and top with lime LaCroix. So simple and refreshing!

Queer Eye Season 4

I was late to the party on this one and didn’t start watching until a couple months ago. Needless to say, I caught up on Seasons 1-3 in a couple weeks. Now I’m one episode from the end of Season 4 and I don’t want it to be over! The Fab Five are SO inspiring. I love that they don’t try to change the “hero”s’ quirks – they just give them confidence! I think my favorite changes every episode. Seasons 3 and 4 also make me miss KC. A LOT. (I lived in Kansas City for almost 3 years before moving back to Michigan this past fall). Even my boyfriend and some guy friends love this show. It’s really just great.

CYCLEBAR

Confession: I don’t usually love spin classes. I feel super uncoordinated and get really frustrated when I can’t keep up with the beat. Like why can I sprint just fine in Orangetheory but just cannot make the pedals go consistently along with the music – ugh!

BUT – occasionally, I like to try a new studio to make myself uncomfortable. I needed the kick in the butt this week so I signed up for a CYCLEBAR class on ClassPass. And loved it! The studio (I went to the one in Royal Oak) was so welcoming, modern, and clearly a community. The instructor was really personable and inspiring. What set it apart from other spin studios I’ve tried is that 1) they have cycling shoes to use with no extra charge and 2) there’s a leaderboard! I love some good ol’ competition. I got exactly middle place in the class and was pretty proud! It’s good to try new things whenever you can – you often end up feeling pretty badass when you crush it!

imPress Press-On Nails

I was suuuper skeptical when I saw these promoted by a couple women I follow on Instagram, BUT I gave them a try back in the spring and haven’t looked back since! They’re $5-7 and you can find them at Target, CVS, Walgreens, Amazon – pretty much any of those kinds of places! Mine have stayed on for AT LEAST a week, most of the time 10-14 days! I used to have acrylic nails for a couple years and did a lot of dip nails last winter. But both destroyed my nails and take time and $$ to keep up. ENTER: imPress nails! They come with the sticky stuff already on the backs so applying them takes about 5 minutes. And I’ve gotten SO many random people complimenting them! I may never stop.

That’s it for this week! Happy weekend, friends!
