Happy Friday, friends! I hope you had a great post-Thanksgiving week. I picked up a stomach bug from my niece this weekend, but it was short-lived! And I didn’t have a post to write this week because my sister guest-posted! Have you checked out her recommendations for Christmas books? There’s plenty of time to read (or listen to) them all this year!
Beyond Christmas book suggestions and getting into the holiday spirit, here are some things I’m loving this week!
Opalhouse candles
These candles from Target are incredible. I’m a big White Barn/Bath & Body Works candle fan, but these (cheaper ones) might be more powerful. Even the mini one makes our whole apartment smell wonderful!
Getting pho on Sundays
Pho (a Vietnamese soup) is kind of a Sunday road trip tradition for me and Hugh. It started when I had moved to KC and he was still at school in St Louis. We always had pho at this amazing place on my way out of town. It’s delicious and hydrating (great after a those kind of weekend nights). Now, we have several Vietnamese restaurants by our apartment here in Michigan and have started getting it when we get home from the Cottage. Hugh likes the adventurous varieties (often including organs – not interested!), but I stick with the classic kind with slices of beef.
Cricut vinyl
My mom and I got into some projects on her Cricut cutting machine this weekend and it was so much fun! I’ve made vinyl monograms to stick on all kinds of things (water bottles, tablet, computer mouse, and PopSocket) and personalized gifts for the holidays. It takes patience, but we really enjoyed working on our projects. I even made an Intentionally Megan logo for my MacBook!
EMOM workouts
Hugh and I did a couple EMOM workouts up at the Cottage this weekend. EMOM stands for Every Minute on the Minute. You do a certain number of reps of an exercise and have the remaining time to rest before you start the next exercise at the start of the next minute. There are lots of EMOM apps that will keep time for you (I use smartWOD timer), so it’s very straightforward. We were sweaty and worn out after just 25 minutes! Carly-Ann Dell shares a lot of great EMOM workouts on her Instagram, or you can search for them on Pinterest to get started.
Homemade pickles
I made pickles for the first time last week and they turned out so yummy! I made pickled cucumbers with this recipe as a base, adding whole mustard seeds and red pepper flakes to the brine. I also made pickled red onions with this recipe, again adding whole mustard seeds, and substituting white vinegar for the ACV.
Okay that’s five! TGIF
