Happy Friday, friends!
Yesterday was our 4th anniversary (did you read our post sharing lessons we’ve learned? Hugh even shared his!), so we hit up several places in Ferndale for happy hours. Oysters and rosé at Voyager, then this really cool cocktail at Valentine Distillery, followed by pizza and prosecco at Pop’s For Italian. Then queso and Firewater at Bobcat Bonnie’s and a sampling of meads at Schramm’s to end things! Needless to say, it was so much fun (and such an us date).
Here are some more things that I’m loving this week…
Trader Joe’s Bloody Mary Salsa
Tried this salsa this week and it is SO GOOD. It’s spicy without being over the top and unique (there’s pickling liquid in it!). Trader Joe’s Salsa Autentica is the OG, but this one might be a new fave.
Fall decor
I got out all my fall decorations this week! This is definitely my favorite season. I now have little pumpkins (like these from Target) all over the apartment that make me smile. And fall candles! #basic
Low Carb Turkey Chili
Another way I got into the fall mood this week was making chili. Is that a fall thing or am I the only one who thinks that? I usually include beans in my chili, but didn’t have any in the pantry. We didn’t miss them – it was so yummy without! I’m definitely not a food blogger, but I can share my “recipe.”
Turkey Chili:
Brown 1 pound of 93% ground turkey. Spoon this out into a bowl and set aside. Sauté 1 medium diced onion in the turkey fat for a couple minutes until translucent. Then add the turkey back in and the rest of the ingredients – 28 ounces fire-roasted diced tomatoes, 2 cups of broth, 1 Tbsp chili powder, 1/2 Tbsp each of cumin and garlic powder, 1/2 tsp each of cayenne pepper and paprika. Bring to boil then simmer for a couple hours, stirring occasionally. Salt and pepper to taste at every step and garnish with green onions. Enjoy!
Google Keep Notes
I’ve started using Keep Notes for pretty much everything. Blog tasks and ideas, errands to run, Christmas gift ideas, membership IDs, anything. It lets you share notes with other people, too! I share grocery lists with Hugh and blog stuff with my personal and blog Google accounts. Keep Notes also come up when you log into your Google Drive on a computer so you can access them anywhere! I’m guessing Apple has something similar. I recommend using a notes app so you can always have your lists at your fingertips!
Trivia night with girlfriends
Wednesday night, I went to a Sporcle trivia and wine tasting at Michigan By the Bottle with a group of girlfriends. I met a couple of the girls via Meetup.com and a couple of them brought other friends. I’m loving getting to know new people, a lot of whom are new to the area. Meeting friends as an adult is hard, but this group from Meetup has helped a lot! We meet for happy hours, wine nights, or trivia every couple weeks. There are usually a few ladies I know and one or two new faces at every gathering.
Those are my Five! Time to get this weekend started!
What are YOU loving this week?
Are you getting into the fall spirit, too? What’s your favorite fall thing? I’d love to hear from you!
