As coronavirus social distancing protocols keep getting extended, more and more people are going to celebrate birthdays at home. I love birthdays. I love any excuse to celebrate, honestly. My 26th birthday was last week (did you read the 26 things I posted last week?) and I managed to make it special and feel like a real birthday, even isolated at home!
Is your birthday coming up? Thinking about skipping it altogether or writing it off as impossible to make special this year? I’m here to share some tips on how to make your birthday great – even during a pandemic!
Decide what you want
A key first step is deciding what you want and how you want to celebrate. What makes a birthday feel like a birthday to you? Maybe it’s connection with fam/friends, a favorite meal, or birthday treat. Be creative to plan it out and make it happen! Set up a birthday video chat with loved ones. Make a grocery list far enough ahead of time to make sure you get all the ingredients you need for that birthday cake (or ice cream like I chose!).
Make it special
I highly suggest getting out of your sweatpants on your birthday. Put on real clothes, make a little makeup on, get cute! I put up some streamers and bright-colored balloon garland to create some festivity, too. You can also eat dinner somewhere special! Eat at the dining room table or coffee table or picnic on the patio – somewhere out of the ordinary!
Give yourself the reason to celebrate
It’s so important to find joy in the midst of all this craziness. A birthday is the perfect excuse to celebrate and be festive! You deserve to be celebrated and treat yourself to a fun day.
I hope these tips set you up to have a special birthday this year even while social distancing. Happy birthday, friends!
