The podcast world has simply exploded in the last few years. There is a seemingly endless number of podcasts out there. From True Crime to niche business to self help to politics. It can be overwhelming! I’m here to help.
I’m drawn to podcasts that teach me something, typically through hearing people’s stories or how they’ve done life. This post will provide you with a variety of kinds of podcasts that will help you in some way (even if it’s just by being entertained for 30 minutes!).
I listen to podcasts on the app Podcast Addict. Spotify and Apple Podcasts are two very popular apps, as well as Overcast and Stitcher. However you listen, these podcasts will make your life better!
Podcasts That Will Make Your Life Better
I tried to point you to some favorite or starter episodes, but I recommend you scroll through episode descriptions and pick a topic or guest that sparks your interest!
Podcast Category: Self Improvement/Health & Wellness
The Model Health Show
This podcast covers a huge variety of health topics of all types. Shawn Stevenson and his guests explain the science behind it all in an understandable way.
Episodes: Any “Masterclass” (such as #298), #330, #270
Living Fully with Mallory Ervin
I’ve mentioned specific episodes of Mallory’s podcast in Friday Five #4 and #18. She aligns with a lot of my values of intentionally creating the life you want and has a big platform to share her stories.
Episodes: I recommend starting at the beginning of this one.
10 Things To Tell You
This is one of two Laura Tremaine podcasts I’m recommending. Each of these episodes has a prompt to journal about or start a conversation with a friend.
Podcast Category: Relationships
RISE Together
You probably know by now that I’m a big fan of Dave and Rachel Hollis and their content. They share a lot about how they are pursuing an exceptional relationship on their podcast.
Episodes: #2, #27, #46
Behind the Scenes
I just started listening to this one and could tell right away that we could learn from Audrey and Jeremy. I tend to cherry pick topics with this one because they have a lot of episodes.
Episodes: #61 (but I haven’t listened to a lot yet)
Podcast Category: Life Skills
How To Money
Friends Joel and Matt share all kinds of personal finance tips on their podcast, all while enjoying a different craft beer every episode.
The Lazy Genius
Kendra of the Lazy Genius Collective helps us be “genius about the things that matter and lazy about the things that don’t” on her podcast. She covers lots of different topics from cooking or grocery shopping to setting intentions for a season to family stuff. I use tons of her hacks on a regular basis.
Podcast Category: Interesting Stories/Perspectives
Smartest Person in the Room
Laura Tremaine’s other (great) podcast. She did several series, but I learned the most from the series about bias.
Episodes: BIAS series (#29-35)
Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness
I loved Jonathan on Queer Eye, so checked out his podcast (and shared on Friday Five #11). He brings on experts to talk about things he is curious about, so there’s a huge variety of topics.
Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey
I shared Jamie’s podcast on Friday Five #7. She brings on girlfriends to “chat about the big things in life, the little things in life, and everything in between.” Some topics get pretty heavy, but it’s real.
That Sounds Fun
Annie F. Downs brings on guests with one rule – they’re either already friends or she wants to be friends! She puts out two episodes per week, so I never keep up, but her conversations are fun (fits the name) and interesting.
Episodes: TSF Couples 2019 series (specifically Andrew East and Shawn Johnson East, Russell and Kailey Dickerson), #125, the EnneaSummer2019 series, #149
Podcast Category: Business
No, I don’t have a business, but I really life learning from successful entrepreneurs!
RISE
Rachel Hollis brings the fire every episode on this chart-topping podcast. There are so many life lessons beyond just the tactical business advice. She empowers women and shares so many great stories.
Episodes: #102, #104, #113, #122
How I Built This
This NPR podcast covers how entrepreneurs started now-well-known companies. This is another one I definitely recommend scrolling through and choosing companies you know and love.
Episodes: Headspace, Dave’s Killer Bread, Bumble
Skimm’ed From the Couch
I shared this podcast on Friday Five #2 and still really enjoy it! TheSkimm founders Carly and Danielle chat with successful women about their career experiences and how they got where they are.
Episodes: Jen Rubio, Ann Curry
The Jasmine Star Show
I listened to Jasmine on the Happy Hour and really liked her energy. She just started her podcast (which I shared on Friday Five #12), but has been teaching small business owners how to grow their businesses on social media for years.
Podcast Category: Entertainment
The Popcast with Knox and Jamie
My OG and gateway podcast (shared on Friday Five #3). Knox and Jamie can talk about seriously anything and I’m hooked. Their tagline is “educating you on the things that entertain but do not matter” and they cover all kinds of pop culture topics in a truly entertaining way. The majority of my current pop culture knowledge it hundo P from this show (which I also support as a Best Friend of the Show to get bonus content like Bachelor(ette) Recap episodes). They also have a Starter Episode page – they get it.
Episodes: Any “The Nos of…” episode (such as #300, #305), any “Deep Dives” (such as #278, #293)
The One With Podcast
How sad is it that FRIENDS is off Netflix?? This podcast started out as recaps of every episode of the beloved sitcom. They’ve since expanded, but I honestly just stuck with the FRIENDS episodes.
Episodes: The S_E_ episodes early on that correspond to your favorite FRIENDS episodes
Okay, that’s my list of favorite podcast! I hope you get into some of them and they teach (or entertain) you something! I’d love to hear if you listen to any of the ones on this post.
